THIS IS THE OLD FIRST EDITION.
The Expat Guide to Growing Old in Japan What You Need to Know Wm Penn 9784902422313 Books
Good book, could have used a little more editing for clarity.I learned a number of things that were new to me concerning aging in Japan. As a holder of "permanent residency" status who is considering living in Japan it was most useful.
On the whole a most useful book for those who are in this most unusual set of circumstances.
In short while remaining in Japan "until the end" offers some advantages and attractions there are some definite downsides particularly in the area of long term care.

The Expat Guide to Growing Old in Japan What You Need to Know Wm Penn 9784902422313 Books Reviews
Great advice for those of us foreigners who'll grow old in Japan before jumping off this mortal coil!
I found this a very informative and useful starters guide.
A very welcome addition to the library of anyone living in Japan permanently or semi-permanently.
This book presents a large amount of useful information that would otherwise be difficult or time consuming for expats to gather and sort through. Thus, it admirably fulfills its purpose and the cost (of the version I bought) is reasonable.
However, although I have yet to read it from cover to cover, I was shocked by the following expressions
"A copy of this will is also kept on record so that it’s accuracy cannot be disputed."
"If the heirs do it that way, they can breath a sigh of relief that the inheritance procedures are finally complete."
These violations of proper English may be due to a lack of proofreading, but the fact that they were written is, to me, simply unprofessional. I emailed the author about the "it is" issue but received no reply.
